Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence involves an act or threatened act of violence against a person with whom you are or have been involved in an intimate relationship. If you have been charged with a criminal act and the court finds that the underlying factual basis includes an act of domestic violence, in addition to the sentencing for that crime, the court will probably order that you complete a domestic violence treatment evaluation and program. The cost of the program will be paid by you. Typically, the program lasts for 36 weeks. Most commonly, Domestic Violence charges are associated with the following offenses:
- Assault
- Harassment
- Menacing
- Stalking
- False Imprisonment
- Violation of Protection/Restraining Orders
- Sexual Assault
Having a Domestic Violence conviction on your criminal record may impair your ability to obtain employment, keep your current employment, and obtain housing. Other complications may also be possible.
Don't blindly plea to a charge of this nature without first obtaining the appropriate legal advice. If you have been charged with a crime that includes Domestic Violence, call The Law Office of Cheryl A. Miller, P.C. today.
